I wrote my memoir, not because I am famous or important in any way. I wrote it because I grew up amidst much secondary trauma which caused me to have generational PTSD. I wrote to share my trials and the way those trials were dealt with. I wrote so that other people who deal with those who have PTSD can see that there is a way through the trials. There is a way to survive.

Quotes from Adytum:

“It seems that my father had promised himself that he would teach his children how to survive. I realized that in my thirty-sixth year. I learned that survival is a state of mind as much as it is a state of being.”

“My father told me to think. Think of my children. Think of my husband. Think of them and the rest of my family. Think . . .”

“My father chanted to me. I believe I heard him at my bedside.

‘Think, Mary. Think. Think. Think. Think.’ ”

There are many ways to survive trauma. Thoughts cannot alone, cure you. But a steady and determined mindset can save precious pieces of your self.
