The Warning Signs of PTSD:
These signs are what the Delta Airlines survivors should be looking for in themselves . . .
Hopefully, all of the survivors of the Delta Airlines crash in Toronto this week are receiving early care support after their traumatic event. PTSD has inherent warning signs which can be readily recognized; and such signs can determine if more support is necessary to help the survivors before they develop full blown PTSD.
Trauma Survivors may experience:
Social isolation
Low mood
Digestion disruptions
Jumpiness
Heart palpitations (perhaps also trembling hands or sweating)
Acute or chronic unexplained physical pain
Aggressive or emotional outbursts
Difficulty with sleep, eating or physical intimacy
Avoidance of people, things or situations related to their traumatic event
A sense of self-blame, worthlessness, shame or guilt
Nightmares/flashbacks
Distrust of others or distrust in the world at large
Loss of interest in activities
Dissociation
Irritability
Feeling empty/hopeless
Headaches
Weakened immune system
As you can see, some of the signs are physical in nature. But all of the signs are determined by the survivor’s state of mind.
