PTSD - Building a Support System and Safe Environment:
Trauma and PTSD Impact Mental Health:
For some people, if they suffer trauma in their life, the effects of that trauma can impact many major aspects of their life afterwards. Many of the people so affected may not recognize some of the common ways their trauma is controlling their life; how their PTSD may be making differences in their life. PTSD can make you feel like you are not in charge of what is going on around you—and that can affect your well-being.
Trauma & PTSD can lead to difficulties that negatively impact life—on a daily basis.
Some of these evasive daily impacts of trauma may include:
Detachment from or negative sense of self
Jaded, fearful, or mistrustful view of the world or other people
Diminished sense of safety
Strained relationships
Difficulty regulating emotions
Decline in performance at work
Decline in school performance
Impaired cognitive functioning (e.g., memory, focus)
Sometimes, along with the above possible daily impacts of trauma, the severity of the trauma can lead to difficulties serious enough to be clinically termed PTSD. In such cases, a clinical diagnosis and treatment should be sought from medical professionals.
Severe or prolonged experiences of trauma can leave suffers susceptible to:
PTSD
Complex PTSD
Prolonged grief disorder
Other mental health conditions
Medical conditions
It is important to remember that none of the above symptoms will certainly happen after a person suffers trauma. Also, remember that none of the above symptoms need to be permanent. If you have any of the above symptoms, seek assistance from qualified medical professionals. They can provide you with knowledge about your symptoms and coping skills to protect your future.
